The department of Clothing and Textiles came into existence since the inception of the college in 1971. In beginning only under graduate programme was started with the objective to impart basic concepts and skills pertaining to Clothing and Textiles, to improve the quality of life in rural areas. Later on, emphasis shifted to inculcate professional knowledge and skills among the students to work in textile industry as well as to establish self-enterprises.

The Postgraduate programmes i.e., M.Sc. (1983) and Ph.D. (2004) in the Department started with the aim to develop highly qualified professional and textile experts to cater to the needs of academics as well as industrial sector.

In view of the enormous potential growth in apparel and textile sector, it has become imperative to have trained manpower and sophisticated infrastructure in the department to exploit the available opportunities at the state, national and global level.

The Department disseminates knowledge of textile fibres, yarns and fabrics through various courses related to Clothing and Textiles. The students are well versed with the latest developments in apparel manufacturing, fashion designing and textile designing. They acquire relevant skills in these areas and also in designing of handicrafts and hand dyed and printed items. C.A.D for pattern making, marking, layout and textile designing are taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The students are exposed to various levels of marketing so that they can visualize themselves as entrepreneurs.
