About Us
Department of Home Science Extension is running in the Home Science College since the establishment of the College in July 1971. The department is offering undergraduate courses since then for the undergraduate degree programme in B.Sc. Home Science till 2016 and for B.Sc.(Hons.) Community Science degree programme since 2017.
In 2011, in four year undergraduate degree programme which was 2+2 system, a vocational elective package in “Journalism and Mass Communication” was started by the department for B.Sc. Home Science students. This elective package helped the students in acquiring skills and knowledge in the different areas of journalism and Mass Communication such as Videography, Photography, Radio Programme production, Social Marketing, Advertising, Designing of Print Media and Computer Applications etc.
The department also offered Rural Awareness Work Experience (RAWE) and In-plant Training.
In 2017, B.Sc. (Hons.) Community Science programme is started with three years of common course work and one year of specialization. This specialization is being offered under the Student Ready Programme which offers RAWE, In-Plant Training/ Internship and a module package on Hands on Training in Print and Electronic Media Production which is offered by the department.

Extension Activities
Organization of exhibition by students: 29th-30th May, 2023
Under the Student Ready Programme, an exhibition "VIVRIDHI '23" was organized under the course “Hands on Training in Print and Electronic Media Production”, by the final year students of the Department of Extension Education and Communication Management on 29th – 30th May, 2023. The inauguration of the exhibition was done by the Honorable Vice - Chancellor, GBPUAT, Pantnagar, Dr. Manmohan Singh Chauhan.
Showcased various graphic design creations such as posters, flyers, brochures, booklets, leaflets, and pamphlets created by students under the Student Ready Program in Print and Electronic Media Production using different graphic designing software. Motivational and Japanese anime-related posters designed by students were also presented for sale in the exhibition. Videos prepared by SRP students like drama on work-life balance, interview on G-20, demonstration on how to present in an interview, documentary on College of Home Science and an advertisement on the department of Extension Education and Communication Management were also presented.

Organization of seven days training programme on Computer Skills- 26th April to 02nd May, 2023
The seven-days training program on 'Basic Computer Skills' was organised from 26th April to 02nd May, 2023. The training started on Wednesday, April 26th, 2023. The opening ceremony was jointly inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Dr. Deepa Vinay, Registrar G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology and Guest of Honour Dr. Alka Goel, Dean College of Community Science. The training program provided skills on basic operations of computer and different computer applications. The students gained basic computer knowledge on functioning and uses of computers and skills in using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Twenty three school students from classes third to tenth actively participated in the training programme.
Director Research, Dr. A.S. Nain was the Chief Guest of the valedictory session of the training programme along with Dr. Alka Goel, Dean, College of Community Science. The participants received certificates alongwith training material.

Organization of Kisan Mela Stall of College of Home Science- 25th to 28th February, 2023
Dr. Anupama Pandey served as Kisan Mela Incharge, College of Home Science and also as Kisan Mela Incharge, department of Extension Education and Communication Management.
Activities under International Year of Millets
The department organized following activities under International Year of Millets-2023
- Rally was organized in the Chakpheri community of Pantnagar Campus on …. February 2023 to create awareness regarding the use of millets in every day diets of the people.
- Participation in Kisan Mela at College stall: During 113th Kisan Mela, from 25th to 28th February, 2023 the Department of Extension Education and Communication Management exhibited the products related to millets. The different extension literature were developed and distributed to make the public aware on diverse uses of millets and their health benefits. Flexies were developed on the topics India’s wealth: millet for health, Online Marketing of Millet Products, Millets: Ancient Grain for New Lifestyle and Millet Grain: the symbol of ancient tradition and quality of the country. Also posters, leaflets and folders on traditional food items of millet were displayed. Along with this millet husk bowls were prepared and displayed in the stall, highlighting the waste management of coarse grains, which was highly appreciated by the stall visitors.
- Flexi Designing Competition was conducted on 1st March, 2023. The students of SRP in the module- Hands on Training in Print and Electronic Media Production participated in this and the theme was on “International Year of Millets 2023”.
- Awareness Campaigns- On 31st March, 2023 the 3rd year students of College of Community Science, GBPUAT, Pantnagar conducted awareness programme on millets in the hostel colony of Pantnagar campus. The awareness was created through the use of different educational aids, demonstration and creative games. The students made people aware about different kinds of millets such as ragi, jowar, bajra, rajgira, sanwa, kodo, chaina, sama using different poster, pamphlet, booklet etc. and the health and nutrition benefits of the millets as compared to the cereal were explained.
- Participation of faculty in “Shri Ann Mahotsav” at Dehradun, organized by the State Govt. of Uttarakhand under the theme of International Year of Millets 2023.
- Awareness Campaigns-on 25th May, 2023 on the occasion of International Year of Millets the 2nd year students of College of Home Science, G.B.P.U.A & T, Pantnagar organized a skit to create awareness regarding millets in the Chittranjan Bhawan-II colony.
Organization of five days training programme: 06th -10th September, 2022
Five days training programme was organized on the title “Empowering Women through Digital Literacy: Awareness and Skill Development” from 06th -10th September, 2022 for Scheduled Castes (SC) Women/Girls of District Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand. The training programme was funded by ICAR-NIAP (National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research). Total 55 women/girls participated in this training programme.
Digital Literacy is crucial and holds utmost importance for an individual in today’s time, which involves the understanding and utilization of various digital tools like laptop, computer, smartphone and other Information Technology (IT) related devices and technologies, being used by individuals for performing meaningful operations. In today’s phase of digital revolution where everything has gone digital, there is an urgent need to impart and promote digital skills in Indian women specially among the deprived section of community- the SC women, to mobilize them in this techno-savvy world. Digital literacy will not only empower them to tackle their everyday needs, but also acquaint them with skills to access the government programmes, policies, initiatives running to serve education, health and their safety.
